One can experience a large species of
birds and animals in this National Park, making it more alluring for
nature lovers. The Gaur, the largest wild animal in the park, can be
seen roaming around and is a popular attraction among tourists.
Different species of Tigers can be found here. Kanha National park is
recorded to be the last refuge of the rare `Hard Ground Barasingha’.
Golden Jackal can also be seen lazing round the park. The Indian Wolf,
once commonly seen at this park, is a rare sight now. Other commonly
seen animals in the park include the Spotted Deer, Sāmbhar, Barking Deer
and the Four-horned Deer. Among the Deer species, Swamp Deer or Hard
Ground Barasingha is the pride of the place, as it is the only sub-
species of swamp deer found in India.
Best time to visit this park is Mid-October to July as in monsoon season
